I’ve spent the past nineteen years in the financial world of banking. I was trained to meet with customers and look for opportunities to make and save them money through the products and services that we offered. We call it profiling. The word opportunity means to do or accomplish something of value. Missed opportunity is a chance to do or accomplish something that you did not take advantage of. I’ve also been in ministry for the past thirty years and pastor a church called the Pulse in Gassaway, West Virginia. www.thepulsewv.com. In the Bible, Matthew 28:19 says, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” This is called the great commission. What Jesus is saying to us is win souls for him. One might ask, win a soul for what? By sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, a person will have the opportunity to become a follower of Jesus and when they die, they will go to heaven. This person also can reject Jesus Christ as their Savior and when they die, hell will be the place where they spend eternity. Jesus wants us to accept him in our heart and become soul winners, which is a person who actively shares his or her faith with others in order to lead them to a relationship with Jesus Christ.

I pastor in a small town in the center of the state of West Virginia. Gassaway has a couple of banks and a few restaurants, a post office, funeral home, an elementary school and a Christian school that we are affiliated with. Our church is in the center of town and there are a lot of people that drive and walk by every day. What God has shown to me over the past few days, is that I’m missing opportunities to share my faith with others in order to lead them to a relationship with Jesus Christ. For example, I saw a man walking down the street caring a case of beer knowing that he was drowning his sorrows in alcohol instead of giving his hurts over to Jesus. I thought about talking to him, but I didn’t. Does that mean I don’t care about where he will spend eternity? I should have stopped what I was doing and introduced myself and offered him a better life with Jesus. Also, a lady was walking up and down the steps of the church with her dog getting exercise. We talked about the weather. I didn’t say a thing about Jesus. Did I just assume that she was a Christian? It was another missed opportunity. I think about where I would be if the people who shared Jesus with me were too busy or afraid of what I would say if they witnessed to me. It’s time for me to stop having missed opportunities. So, let me introduce myself to you. My name is John Fowler can I talk to you about Jesus and how you can make him your Lord and Savior?
